Greetings. We have been very busy here at the
Bunkhouse, studying our plans for El Cosmico and trying to zero in on our master
plan for the infrastructure for the community, the trailers and the timeline of
the project. As you can imagine, it is difficult to pin down construction
numbers in Marfa, and it is challenging to price out not-yet-found vintage
trailers, but we’re working hard to resolve these unknowns and to answer all of
your questions.
We’ve assembled an exciting team to design and
construct the grounds and common areas of the site: landscape architect Christy
Ten Eyck of Austin
We have completed conceptual drawings
and are in the process of analyzing costs. Our initial cost analysis indicates that trailer
prices will range from $75,000 to $110,000. We have begun to locate some great
specimens – five to six Spartans will be delivered to Austin in the next few
weeks for us to begin work. We hope to start site work in Marfa in May. I
can’t yet tell you what our construction timeline looks like – there are still
details to work out that will dictate when trailers will be able to occupy the
property. When the trailers arrive at El Cosmico, they will be permanently
attached to water, electricity and sewage.
Below is a link to download Lake/Flato’s site plan for the El
Cosmico grounds. This is a preliminary sketch, and we are not
committed to these exact details, but I do want to share it with you to show you
the direction the development is headed. One of the main organizing principles
of the site is the large pool at the center – everything will radiate off of
that ninety-foot (diameter) orb. The trailer imprints look a little crazy
because we’ve imagined attached porches and outdoor
showers.
We look forward to posting more information as we
gather it – we’ll update the blog regularly with pictures, plans and more details.
Kind
Regards,
Liz
